Next RDS Forum meeting on 21 & 22 October 2024 at Geneva
RT+ is a more recent development coordinated by the RDS Forum since 2005. Now this technology is already part of the updated RDS standard (Annex P). The implementation of this new feature progresses very rapidly, specifically in Germany by the public broadcasters with already 25 radio programme chains using RT+ and in the USA with already over 600 commercial radio stations nationwide. Also, in late 2009, in London the commercial radio station Absolute Radio started to use RT+.
For broadcasters RT+ is very attractive as the same technology was also recently adopted for Digital Radio. Thus the investment in implementing RT+ will be future-proof.
Here is a PDF presentation that explains the RT+ implementation progress
One of the first Nokia smart phones with RT+ is the N8, released in October 2010. This one, as well as ten other new Nokia mobile phones, can decode RT+ with the built-in FM/RDS radio. In London, former RDS Forum Member Absolute Radio checked this and here is the result. It displays correctly the RT music titles and artist names
